School Meals

SCHOOL CATERING

The school’s catering team provides healthy lunches cooked from scratch in our school kitchen. Produce is locally and sustainably sourced whenever possible. All infant aged children are provided with a free school meal every day.

The Mayor of London is offering grant funding for the 2024/25 school year to pay for free school meals for key stage 2 pupils at state schools who do not qualify for Government-funded income-related free school meals.

All primary school children who attend state schools in London will receive free school meals for the full academic year, starting in 2024/25 academic year. This means all state funded primary school children in London are now eligible for free school meals. The funding will help up to 270,000 primary school children in London access free school meals and could save your family upwards of £440 across the year.

Your child will receive their free school meals automatically, but it’s vitally important that you still complete your borough’s registration form if you believe you are eligible for extra benefits-related funding free school meals. See eligibility criteria below.

Benefit-related free school meals (pupil premium)

Pupils may receive benefits-related free school meals if their parent(s) are in receipt of:

  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit

  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Children who receive any of the qualifying benefits listed above in their own right are also eligible to receive free school meals

As we are a Healthy School, packed lunches may not include sweets or chocolate. We have a nut-free policy in school. When in school all children should have a water bottle filled with water only.

Break times

All Lower School children receive a free piece of fruit/vegetable daily through the National Fruit Scheme. Upper School children may bring a piece of fruit or vegetable for break time.

COOL MILK SCHEME

In partnership with Cool Milk, our school provides a milk scheme which is available to all of our pupils. Milk is free for all under-fives and is subsidised for pupils aged five or older at around £15.00 a term.

Each pupil that registers with Cool Milk will receive a carton of semi-skimmed milk everyday, which is delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom. Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it is rehydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused.  Find out the top ten reasons to drink school milk at www.coolmilk.com/whyschoolmilk

My child is under five?

Unless you tell us you do not wish your child to participate, the school will register your child for milk on admission to Wickham Common.  Free milk will continue until the Friday before your child’s fifth birthday. If you wish your child to continue to receive school milk you will need to register with Cool Milk (see below).

My child is five or older?
