Outdoor Learning
At Wickham Common, we have a wealth of incredible outdoor spaces which allow ample opportunities for Outdoor Learning. Our Early Years classes, Acorns and Conkers, have a dedicated outdoor learning area that operates as an extension of their classrooms. Lessons across the curriculum may take place in any number of outdoor areas such as our wildlife area, the school garden, our reading corner or the school garden. We have a fully equipped pond dipping area, complete with a safety cover. Due to the location of our school, we also have access to outdoor learning opportunities in our wider community as children take part in local area educational visits to Well Wood and West Wickham Common itself.
During Outdoor Learning sessions all participants are viewed as:
- equal, unique and valuable
- competent to explore & discover
- entitled to experience appropriate risk and challenge
- entitled to choose, and to initiate and drive their own learning and development
- entitled to experience regular success
- entitled to develop positive relationships with themselves and other people
- entitled to develop a strong, positive relationship with their natural world
